Testing for Sleep Apnea: Home Sleep Test

home sleep testOur home sleep tests are easy to use, and can be completed in one night. We will prepare a test and ship it to your office or directly to your driver. Once the test is complete, ship it back for physician review. If our physician determines treatment for sleep apnea is needed with a device such as an APAP, we will contact the driver to discuss the options.

Treatment for Sleep Apnea: The Mighty APAP

If a sleep device is needed, our physician will write a prescription for an APAP . We will calibrate the new APAP and contact your driver to arrange delivery. All of our APAPs include compliance monitoring to insure that your driver is using the device according to physician instructions, as needed for the Department of Transportation.

mobile cpapObstructive sleep apnea occurs when the upper airway becomes narrow as the muscles relax naturally during sleep. This reduces oxygen in the blood and causes arousal from sleep. The PAP machine stops this phenomenon by delivering a stream of compressed air via a hose to a nasal pillow, nose mask, full-face mask, or hybrid, splinting the airway (keeping it open under air pressure) so that unobstructed breathing becomes possible, therefore reducing and/or preventing apneas and hypopneas.

apapAn automatic positive airway pressure device (APAP, AutoPAP, AutoCPAP) automatically titrates, or tunes, the amount of pressure delivered to the patient to the minimum required to maintain an unobstructed airway on a breath-by-breath basis by measuring the resistance in the patient's breathing, thereby giving the patient the precise pressure required at a given moment.

APAPs require a mask that patients must wear while sleeping. The mask is the most important component for insuring proper treatment. A proper fitting mask insures a positive outcome.
